Closure of abdominal wounds by adhesive strips: a clinical trial.

چکیده
In a randomized trial of wound closure in 512 abdominal wounds, wounds were closed with either reinforced Steristrip skin closures or interrupted silk sutures. Comparisons were made of wound pain and discomfort, wound infection, discharge, redness, width, and skin reaction. The causes of peeling of the tapes were assessed. The results showed that tapes were significantly more comfortable and that patients preferred them to sutures (P less than 0.01), but wide scars occurred more often. There was no difference in rates of wound infection and no case of allergy to the tapes was seen. Closure of abdominal wounds by these tapes is a satisfactory procedure that could be used more extensively.

Optimal closure of surgical wounds in forefoot surgery: are adhesive strips beneficial?
A subcuticular suture is an ideal closure method of surgical wounds where the aim is healing by primary intention. The addition of adhesive strips over the subcuticular suture appears to be based on anecdotal, rather than experimental evidence. We performed a prospective study to compare the postoperative wound complications of combination closure with subcuticular closure alone. The wounds of ...

OBJECTIVE To compare the tissue adhesive 2-octylcyanoacrylate (Dermabond) with adhesive strips, Steristrips in paediatric laceration repair. METHOD Children with suitable lacerations were randomly allocated for wound closure with either a tissue adhesive or adhesive strips. Thirty children were treated in each group. Linear Visual Analogue Scores were used to judge parents' and nurses' opinio...
متن کاملClosure of traumatic wounds without cleaning and suturing.
BACKGROUND In less than ideal situations wounds have to be closed without extensive cleaning using sterile adhesive strips (Steristrips). This prospective analyses the efficiency of this technique and compares it to the more conventional approach. METHODS Altogether 147 lacerations were closed with sterile strips with no wound cleaning. Patients were subsequently followed up for a minimum of ...
متن کاملAbdominal wound healing: a prospective clinical study.
The incidence of wound dehiscence and incisional hernia after two methods of abdominal wound closure (layered closure with retention sutures and single-layer "mass closure") was studied in a randomised prospective clinical trial in a consecutive series of 200 patients. Dehiscence occurred in 1% of patients and herniation in 4-7%; the incidence of these complications was similar with both method...
متن کاملRandomised clinical trial of suture compared with adhesive strip for skin closure after HRT implant.
To determine which method of skin closure was associated with less bleeding, 250 women were randomly allocated to have either a suture closure (3-0 Dexon II) or an adhesive strip closure (Steri-Strip) following subcutaneous insertion of hormone (HRT) implants. Data were collected via a tested questionnaire and analysed. Significantly, more women in the adhesive strip group recorded postprocedur...
